There’s something really nice about eating outdoors; the fact its a bit novel combined with pretty scenery and the fact that we’re able to eat slightly different foods than what are normally on the menu. Now that quarantine restrictions have eased, in most places we’re able to get outside more and enjoy nature again (providing we adhere to social distancing rules). And being outdoors when the weather is warm and enjoying some delicious food is something that will benefit all of us after a very strange few months. Here are some of the ways you can go about it.
Picnic
You could take a walk to your local park or you could drive somewhere more scenic, pack up a bag of tasty picnic goodies and sit and enjoy it out on the grass on a picnic blanket. Have fun in the kitchen making homemade sausage rolls and scotch eggs, tasty sandwich fillings and baking some cakes and scones. Pinterest is a fantastic resource for these kinds of recipes if you’re looking for ideas.
Barbeque
When the weather is warm, many of us get the urge to get out into the garden and fire up the grill! While there are lots of pre-marinated meats and other prepared foods in the shops that you can throw straight on the barbeque, it’s much more satisfying (and cheaper) to do it all yourself. Grab your herbs and spices and find some recipes for spice rubs and blends, apply them to different kinds of meats and allow them to absorb overnight in the fridge. You could make your own burgers easily using ground meat and any extras you want to add, and things like veggie and meat kebabs are easy to put together. Sides such as homemade coleslaw, potato salad and pasta salads can all be prepared ahead of time too, and will taste better after sitting in the fridge for a day or two. So don’t feel like you need to do it all on the day and be rushed off your feet, get organized and you can enjoy the occasion and have plenty of delicious, home prepared foods ready to grill.
Campfire
Whether you’re just sitting in the garden or the park in the evening or going out to your local woods or beauty spot to pitch a tent, there are lots of tasty campfire foods you could take with you. How about this chili recipe with some s’mores for after? You could make campfire stew, nachos or campfire hash, full of flavor and nice and filling on a breezy summer evening.
