Easy, Quick, and Affordable DIY Wreath
It’s no secret that I LOVE the Dollar Tree! The thing I love most about it is that they have amazing holiday decor, especially if you’re the DIY type! I love making wreaths for my front door, but materials can be expensive. For this DIY Wreath, I used $7 of products from the Dollar Tree….that’s it. $7!!! I’m not gonna lie, I’m pretty proud of myself on this one!
If you want to make one of these easy, quick DIY wreaths too, here’s what you’ll need:
- 3 tubes of ornaments
- 2 rolls of garland
- a large star ornament
- wire wreath frame
- glue gun
- glue sticks
- piece of string
So to be fair, I already had the glue gun and glue sticks, but if you don’t already have them, you can find them really inexpensively at any craft store. And, you can actually get glue sticks at the Dollar Tree with the rest of the craft supplies!
To start this project, you’re going to take one roll of your garland, and wrap it around the wire wreath frame. There’s no need to glue the end of the garland onto the frame to get it to stay since there’s wire in the garland. All you need to do is simply wrap the very end around one wire and twist to secure it in place. When you wrap the remaining garland around the wreath frame, you’ll want to be sure to keep it fairly loose for two reasons. 1. Keeping it loose will allow it to look a little more “fluffed” up, thus reducing the need for several extra rolls of garland. 2. By keeping the garland loose, you’ll be able to get between two rows of it to glue your ornaments to the wire wreath frame.
The rolls of garland that I used for this project were 15′ in length. You shouldn’t need any more than two rolls of garland for this, unless you want a fluffier, more full-looking wreath. Below is how the wreath will look with two full rolls of garland loosely wrapped around the wire wreath frame.
With the frame fully covered, it’s time to start adding the ornaments. As I said previously, you’ll want to be sure the garland is loose enough that you can pull two rows of it apart in order to glue your ornaments to the wire frame. This will allow the ornaments a more secure hold so there’s less likelihood of them coming off when exposed to the elements hanging on your front door. As for the hot glue, this is not the time to skimp! I used a TON of hot glue around the base of the ornament to ensure it would be able to grab on to lots of wire and garland to really get a good hold. Very different than when my kindergarten tried to tell us “A little dab will do ya!” Anyone else ever have teachers say that??
To get full coverage with the ornaments, I started gluing essentially to the middle of the wire wreath frame, then added more to the inside by gluing the ornaments to the ones in the row above. There is really no right or wrong way to do this – the goal is just to have the ornaments glued on with fairly even coverage.
Once all the ornaments were glued on, I tied a small piece of string to the large star ornament and hung it in the middle of the wreath. And that’s it! That’s seriously all it takes to make this gorgeous DIY Wreath! $7 and about 20 minutes and you’re done!
If you make one of these too, I’d love if you shared it on Instagram and tagged me (@rosewoodandgrace) so I can see all of your beautiful creations! 🙂
