I’m a bit of a hoarder when it comes to recipes. I have a ton of cookbooks and I love cooking magazines and websites. Because of this, I have torn out magazine pages and even old printed out recipes from different websites that are all stuffed in random folders and drawers all over the house. I’ve been looking for a recipe organizer for a while that I can easily use online that allows me to find things quickly. I recently started using One tsp. I have some mixed feelings towards it early on, but I’m going to give it a fighting chance to keep track of my recipes.
The Pros:
- It’s free. Well, it’s free as long as you’re only storing 150 or less recipes. After that, you need to pay for a 1 or 2 year membership, but it’s super affordable, so likely worth it.
- It’s (fairly) easy. I’ve found that the best use for this site is to use it for clipping recipes from the web. I’ve went through some of my magazine and found the recipes I want from the website of the magazine. Once you have the link directly to the recipe, you enter the link into One tsp. and the info will be automatically uploaded so you don’t have to type it all in!
- You can add recipes through a simple button! One tsp. has a button that you can add right to your browser so you can simply click on the button to add a recipe if you’re just randomly going through various websites.
- You can create a shopping list for recipes you plan on making. This is always helpful for some last minute planning – anything to make the trip to the grocery store a bit quicker is always a plus in my book!
The Cons:
- It’s free (with a cost). So yes, it’s free if you store 150 or less recipes, but I’m a bit of a hoarder, so while the cost is minimal to store recipes, there’s still a cost.
- It’s not always that easy. Some websites don’t work all that well when transferring a recipe over via the direct link. For example, Martha Stewart website recipes work flawlessly through the direct link upload, Taste of Home recipes don’t work at all.
- The recipes aren’t organized that well. I was looking for a platform that would allow me to organize recipes not only by search term or tag, but also by meal type (i.e. – drink, appetizer, dinner, dessert, etc…). One tsp. lets you add tags to a recipe, but no filters appear to be there for meal type or category unless you remember to add them yourself as a tag.
For now, I’m going to give One tsp. a fighting chance to store my recipes. The verdict is still out if I’ll use it beyond storing recipes from websites I stumble upon, but even if that’s the only way I use it, I think it’s worth it to give it a try!
*Please know that I am not affiliated with One tsp. in any way. I’m simply a recipe lover seeking a good platform to store all of my favorite recipes.
Let me know what you think! Did you try it out? Do you have a favorite website or app you use to store your recipes?
