Make Something May Creation Challenge

Make Something May

I used to hate being called “creative.”  I’ve been called that for as long as I can remember and I hated it because I thought the things I was doing were pretty standard.  I didn’t see anything creative about them.  Instead, I wanted to be called “smart,” “ambitious,” or “hard-working,” but somehow “creative” is always just what others saw as my shining quality.  After going through years and years of degree programs, I was sure I would finally get the labels that I thought I wanted, and I did.  And you guessed it, I now miss being viewed as the “creative” type.

I’ve gotten away from doing the things I used to love doing, like scrapbooking, crafting, and basically anything that would be considered DIY.  Just last month I finally made a huge effort to get back to doing what I love and I bought a Silhouette Cameo.  And I love it.  A lot.  🙂  I’ve been putting labels and monograms on just about everything I can find.  As I get busy with all of my other day to day duties though, I struggle to find the time to be crafty.  I see my supplies just sitting there and immediately start questioning why I spent the money on them to begin with since I knew I wouldn’t have time to use them much.

Well that thinking is over.  I am making time to be crafty.  It’s my outlet and I love it.  Most people use the time excuse when referring to why they don’t work out or prepare healthier meals.  That part I’ve got mastered somehow.  It’s finding time for a hobby that makes me happy that I’ve struggled with.  So I’m challenging myself to make something every day for a month.  So as of now, I’m declaring this “Make Something May.”  Every day I will make something.  It may not always be big and fancy, but I feel if I make a conscious effort to make something, I will gradually start to get back to making time for the fun stuff again.

So stay tuned to see what the month will bring!
