French toast is one of those breakfast items that everyone seems to love, but it can get messy with dipping the bread into the egg mixture then dripping it across the counter to the stove-top. And waiting for it to cook can be excruciating when you’re hungry! That’s why I love this simple overnight french toast! It’s so simple and easy to do which makes it the perfect breakfast for lazy weekends or crazy busy holidays!
What you’ll need:
- 1 uncut loaf of french bread (you can usually find these at the store for $1)
- 3 eggs
- 2 cups milk
- 3 tsps cinnamon
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup maple syrup
- Powdered Sugar
Instructions:
- Cut french bread into semi-thick pieces.
- Lay bread in greased (or buttered) baking dish.
- Mix together eggs, milk, cinnamon, brown sugar, and maple syrup in a bowl then pour over bread.
- Cover baking dish with tin foil and place in refrigerator overnight.
- The next morning, preheat over to 350ºF.
- Place covered baking dish in over for 30 minutes.
- Remove tin foil and place bake in over for addition 5-10 minutes.
- Remove from oven and pour over additional maple syrup as desired and lightly dust with powdered sugar.
- Enjoy!
This really is the easiest and best tasting breakfast you can make, so be sure to give it a try this holiday season! And while it may not look like much, it is incredibly filling, so this one dish can likely serve 6-8 people, especially if you’re making other breakfast items! And if you’re looking for something else to make with it, my Brown Sugar Bourbon Bacon recipe goes great with it!
