Have you recently moved into a property where the kitchen is more than a little worse for wear? Maybe you’ve had your current kitchen for more years than you can count, and are fed up with the condition. When you don’t have a huge budget it can be frustrating, new kitchens are some of the priciest upgrades we can make on our homes and not everyone is in a position to spend thousands on a nice new one. However, you’ll be pleased to know that there are ways of making a dramatic difference without spending much at all, and if you go about it properly it can look like you’ve had a brand new one fitted. Here are a few things you can do…
Paint the cabinets
Your kitchen cabinets are the main feature, so if they’re ugly and unattractive it’s going to bring down the look of the whole room no matter what else you do. Old fashioned wood styles like pine and dark colors can easily be modernized and brightened up with a simple coat of paint. Take off all of the doors at the hinges, and sand them down. Paint using a kitchen cupboard paint, and then replace the knobs with new ones before re-hanging everything. Take your time and get this right, and it could look like a whole new room when you’re finished.
Paint the walls
After painting the cabinets, paint the walls. If you use a paint designed for kitchens it will be mold and stain resistant and wipe clean, perfect for splashes and spills. Choose a neutral or a pastel shade to keep the kitchen looking bright and airy.
Replace outdated tiles with an updated backsplash
Out of style tiles are a dead giveaway of a kitchen’s age, but replacing them can be expensive. Tile paint is an option but you don’t always get the best finish. Instead, take them all down and have a backsplash fitted. These can be inexpensive to buy and relatively simple to install and look great, and you can find them in all kinds of colors and designs so it’s easy to pick one that matches the style you’re trying to create.
Repair and clean appliances
You don’t need to run out and buy all new appliances, if yours don’t work as well as they once did then have them repaired instead. Search Samsung appliance repair (or whatever brand your appliances are) and have your appliances serviced. Something as simple as having your oven cleaned or your filter replaced in your washing machine can make all the difference.
Update the accessories
Finally, updating the decor will give the kitchen a fresh new look. Replace the clock, the items on the shelves, the tea towels and add a plant or two. Make it homey without adding clutter since the kitchen is a busy space and so you need all the room you can get. But you’ll still want to put your stamp on it and make it a comfortable and welcoming space to be.
