We’re building a house and moving across the state!
I’ve been a little MIA lately because to be honest, I’ve probably got a little too many irons in the fire. It’s a busy time of year for everyone due to the holidays, and I’m no exception to the madness. On top of getting holiday-ready, my little lady has been sick off-and-on for the last few weeks, which of course means my husband and I have been sick off-and-on for the last few weeks as well. It’s also a crazy busy time of year at my job which can also wear me down if I let it. And for the icing on the cake, my husband and I might be a little crazy because we’re building a house and moving across the state!
Yep, you read that right – we’re building a house in a town that is 5 hours away from where we currently live. I know, it sounds crazy – because it is!
So here’s the backstory…
We currently live in the St. Louis area. We moved to the area several years ago when my husband got his first job out of college. We’ve been happy here and have made some great friends, but I have ALWAYS wanted to live in the Chicago area and we finally have the opportunity. My husband and I both work from home now, which means we have the flexibility to live anywhere!
We looked at TONS of houses online, both older and new construction, and eventually landed on a new construction. We spent a long weekend up in the area exploring and visiting our new community prior to signing any papers, but honestly, we just knew that was it! I’m not gonna lie – it’s SUPER scary! We’re not able to pop over to the home site to check on construction and we have to drive 5 hours one-way if we have to go up and make any decisions on things (yep, we actually drove 10 hours in one day just to spend less than an hour picking out the interior and exterior colors). What is awesome though is that our sales agent has been more than helpful and sends us frequent pictures of the progress, which definitely takes some of the edge off.
Our house isn’t slated to be completed until March or April, but we’ve got a lot to do in the meantime. Right now, my focus is on getting our current house ready to put on the market. We’ve been removing all of the wall decor, patching holes, painting, and packing boxes with things we won’t be needing anytime soon and putting it all in storage.
